2-in-1 Washer / Steamer
High pressure outside, steam inside.
A commercial car-care machine with two modes: a high-pressure water jet for the outside of the car and steam for the inside. Researched against real safety standards.

01Brief
Design a commercial product
Product Design (3) asked for a product that could really be sold. I chose car care: washing businesses need a strong jet for the outside of a car and gentle steam for seats, dashboards and glass. Today that usually means two machines.
02Research
Users, competitors and standards
I built user personas and a competitor matrix, then wrote 19 prioritized requirements based on IEC/EN 60335-2-79 (the safety standard for pressure washers and steam cleaners), CE marking and IP65 water protection.
03Sketch
Paper first
I sketched the main unit and every attachment before modeling. The notes set the targets: jet mode at 100–180 bar (300 bar max), a 15–30 second switch between modes, a 3-minute cold start for steam, an electric motor pump, an ABS body and about 35 kg in total. Then came the accessories for each mode: spray gun and lance, a triple nozzle (point and flat stream), an anti-twist high-pressure hose on an automatic reel, and steam tools for seats, glass and fabric.
04Design
One body, two modes
Water mode works between 100 and 180 bar, with 165 bar as the normal operating point. Steam mode runs at about 140 °C. Two lances and four nozzles (squeegee, brass brush, jet nozzle and brush head) cover exterior and interior jobs.
05Prototype
Modeled in SolidWorks
The main unit is 610 mm tall with 200 mm wheels and a handle on top, so one person can roll it around a car.
